MIAMI (WSVN) -- Toys for Tots is lacking on donations this year, and you can help out by donating a toy at your local drop off center.

The Toys for Tots program collects unwrapped toys during October, November and December to distribute them to needy children in the community. The toys are distributed to local churches and hospitals.

"We come out there in our uniform. There is a Santa Claus, and we give the toy to Santa Claus, and he gives it to the children," said Toy for Tots coordinator Gunnery Sgt. Eddie Fonseca. "A lot of the big sellers right now are the remote controlled cars, kids love those things."

You can drop of any unused and pre-packaged toy in bins at Walgreens, Toys "R" Us and Big Lots. Some toys that are no-no items are toys with food or any realistic-looking weapon.

The non-profit organization is asking for most donations to be in by the week of Dec. 17 so each toy can be delivered in time for Christmas.
