Teen in critical condition after ATV accident

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A South Florida teen is in critical condition after losing control of an ATV.

The 16-year-old was riding his ATV near Northwest Third Street and 53rd Avenue when he lost control and crashed into a house Monday at 8 p.m. "He was among several friends when he jumped onto the ATV, went racing onto the roadway at a high rate of speed, turned around and came back," said Miami Police Detective Joseph Kennedy, "and apparently, due to his inexperience level to handle such a large bike, he lost control of the ATV and collided with this home."

Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

The teen suffered a head injury and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police are investigating.
