Eyewear thief surrenders to police

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A woman who was caught on surveillance video taking designer eyewear has turned herself in to police.
One day after the story aired on 7News, the woman who robbed hundreds of dollars in designer eyeglasses from a South Florida optical center is now in jail.
Jennifer Moreno, 21, covered her face and used tunnel vision, covering her face in a hoodie, as she walked into the Coral Springs Police Department, Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, when Moreno walked into Eagle Eyecare on 1380 Coral Ridge Drive in Coral Springs she took about $1,700 worth in glasses and took off.
Moreno was seen on surveillance video making conversation with the owner and pretending to be interested in buying. She then re-arranged the glasses on the wall to make it look like none were missing. Moreno took five designer sunglasses and regular economic frames.
Officials said after the story aired, it generated about a dozen Crime Stoppers tips, all who identified the person on the surveillance video.
Store owner Michael Silverman is relieved and said they are glad a crook is off the streets. "We're glad we can have some justice and save some other optical shops from being ripped off," he said.
Moreno has been charged with grand theft.
The three Jimmy Choo sunglasses and two Gucci glasses have not yet been returned.
