Passenger in getaway car drowns in canal

HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Rescue crews pulled a man out of a Hialeah canal after a police chase took a fatal turn, Monday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol units chased a car down interstate 75 onto the Palmetto Expressway after that car struck another vehicle and drove off. When coming to a stop in Hialeah, the passenger of the runaway car jumped into a canal off West 20th Avenue and 68th Street.

The man never resurfaced. Divers were called out to retrieve the body.

The driver was arrested nearby.
