New photo of Zimmerman released

SANFORD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A new photo of the former neighborhood watch volunteer charged in the fatal shooting of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin has been released.

George Zimmerman's defense team posted the picture on-line Monday. The photo shows him with a bloody lip and swollen nose.

Attorney Mark O'Mara claims the picture was taken by a police officer Feb. 26, the night his client shot and killed Trayvon Martin. However, he said this full color version was not released until late October.

"This type of evidence should have come out day one," said Zimmerman's Attorney Mark O'Mara, "and, quite honestly, I think would have gone a long way to quelling all of the anger against George."

In an interview with Reuters, the Martin family's attorney Benjamin Crump said the photo does not add anything new to the case.

Zimmerman claims he fired his gun in self defense.
