MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Community leaders are scheduled to hold a news conference Wednesday to talk about the violence that claimed the life of a well respected businessman.

People who knew Errol Peart gathered Tuesday night to remember him with a candlelight vigil. A memorial at the sight where he was gunned down is growing, as people place photos, and other momentos to remember a man they said meant everything to the community.

"The best part of my life is gone. I'm not sure if it can build back, or what's gonna happen to me, but I have to stay strong for my kids, that I know for sure," said the victim's wife, Dawn Barrett.

A gunman shot Peart as he tried to protect a customer from getting robbed at his Miami Gardens car wash on Sunday.

Community leaders hope to come up with a plan to stop these types of crimes from happening.
