Police search for shoplifter at large

MIRAMAR, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are investigating a police-involved shooting after a shoplifter tried to run over an officer, and then fled the scene.

According to Miramar Police, a shoplifter was exiting the Target parking lot and got into a vehicle. The officers then followed the shoplifter to a Chili's Restaurant in the area of 164th Ave. and Miramar Pkwy Wednesday night.

For a brief moment, the officers lost the vehicle but then caught up to it. A police officer was standing outside of his cruiser when the shoplifter tried to run him over.

Police said the officer fired several shots at the vehicle, but no one was hit.

The driver then crashed the car into the restaurant and one-person fled the scene.

K9 Units have arrived on the scene to search for the suspect.

Police are investigating.
