MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) --Residents in one South Florida community let out a rallying cry.

Dozens of people gathered in Miami Gardens to raise awareness for the excessive violence in the community.

Law enforcement, non-profit groups, and other community members marched from Mount Zion A-Me Church to Bunche Park. "All of these children are all of our children," said Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert. "They're our neighbors, they're our neighbors, they're our friends, and the city's obligation, the community's obligation is for it to be safe for absolutely everyone."

Just a week ago, a car wash owner was shot and killed at his business while trying to save a customer.

Members of the community said they believe senseless crimes like this one can be prevented through education.
