MIAMI (WSVN) -- Rd light cameras have caught a driver in a lie about a crash that knocked a Miami Police officer off his motorcycle and put him in the hospital.

Police arrested Hector Ramirez, 49, while Miami Police Officer Juancarlos Erigoyen continues to recover from a broken shoulder at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Monday afternoon, Officer Erigoyen was leading a funeral procession when Police said he was hit by Ramirez near Southwest 37th Avenue and West Flagler Street. Ramirez originally told police he swerved into Officer Erigoyen to avoid hitting someone else. However, footage from a red light camera tells a different story.

The video shows cars at a complete stop when Officer Erigoyen approaches. Then, Ramirez can be seen trying to make an illegal left turn and hitting six-year veteran, Officer Erigoyen.

Miami Police said Ramirez eventually confessed to them. "Why he created the story, we do not know," said Miami Police Detective Willie Moreno. "One thing we like to emphasize, a traffic infraction is just a traffic infraction, but because he created this false story, he now faces a criminal charge to a second degree misdemeanor, and again, we emphasize stop, render aid and tell the truth."

Ramirez is charged with providing false information on a crash report.
