Thieves steal funeral home's AC unit
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A South Florida funeral home has been left feeling the heat after their air conditioning unit was robbed from the roof.
Zion Funeral Home, located on Northwest 62nd Street in Miami, has only been opened for seven months.
While the funeral has been busy giving back, they have been robbed in the parking lot, had their electric meter stolen and, on Tuesday, they discovered someone took off with their AC unit from the roof. "I thought he was playing a joke on me because I was like, who would go up in the roof of a funeral home and take a big unit off?" said Lashonda McCallum.
Reverend Derrick Anderson said the AC unit is brand new and could not figure why the rooms would not cool down. He then realized the problem was coming from outside where the AC unit was stolen. "But I've never seen where they stole the whole unit," said Anderson. "I'm used to them tearing open and taking the inside of it, but for them to take the whole unit off the roof of the building..."
The funeral home said they are not holding a grudge against the crooks and will forgive them. "I would say to that person that it might be you. You may need us to bury one of your loved ones," said Shantron Anderson, "and guess what, we'll still do it because that's what we do."
The funeral home has two viewing scheduled for this week and is trying to figure out a way on where to hold them.
If you have any information on this theft, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
