Man found beaten to death, 2 teens in custody

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are investigating the death of man who was found beaten to death behind a local auto parts store.

According to Hallandale Beach Police, they received a call at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, regarding an assault at the Advance Auto Parts store near North Federal Highway, just east of Hallandale Beach Boulevard.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found two teens near the body. When the teens saw police, they took off running. They were then caught and arrested. "We received a 911 call regarding three males about a physical altercation," said Hallandale Beach Police Chief Dwayne Flourny. "Hallandale Beach Police officers arrived to find two males hovering and striking another male which was on the ground."

The teens, 17-year-old Juan Xolo and 14-year-old Jose Carlos llano were taken into custody. They confessed to detectives about being involved in an altercation and to stabbing the victim with a pen. Investigators said Xolo and llano are cousins.

Neighbors said the victim might have been a homeless person who is usually in the area. "I see the homeless guy sitting near the bus stop working on the computer and playing with his laptop," said a resident.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Police have not released the victim's name but said he was in his 30s.

Police have not said what caused the altercation. A laptop computer was recovered from the scene.

Xolo and llano have been charged with second-degree murder.

Police have not confirmed if the victim was homeless.
