MIRAMAR (WSVN) -- A Navy sailor gave his son a surprise early Christmas present Friday morning.

Five-year-old Coconut Palm Elementary School student Joaquin Chin jumped from his classroom seat and ran over to hug his father, Navy sailor Michael Chin.

It was the first time in eight months that father and son had been reunited. It is also the first Christmas in five years that the Chin family will spend together.

The Navy sailor, who was stationed off the coast of Lybia, handed out high fives as he walked the school hallways, which were lined up with students waving paper US flags and holding handmade "Welcome Home" signs.

"I am beyond overwhelmed," said Evelyn Chin, the sailor's mother.
