Fire officials give locals tips on holiday safety

DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Fire officials brought awareness to locals regarding a holiday hazard.

Miami-Dade and Broward Fire Rescue teamed up at the fire academy in Davie to show how hot lights on a Christmas tree can cause the tree to catch fire.

They advised to regularly water your tree, so it doesn't dry out. They also suggest to turn off your Christmas lights when you're out and replace your lights at least every five years.
