MIAMI (WSVN) -- A 15-year-old boy is in the hospital after someone shot him in the back.

The boy was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital from the Midtown area of Miami near Wynwood, near Northwest First Avenue and 28th Street, Wednesday night.

Police believe the incident began at around 8:30 p.m. just a few blocks away from the Midtown Shoppes. They responded to a call from neighbors reporting gunshots in the area.

The 15-year-old boy is reportedly the only victim. He is believed to have suffered from one gunshot wound to the back.

Police also discovered a bicycle and at least one bullet casing at the scene. "I heard gunshots and a car speed off," said a witness, "and the boy told me to get the bike off of his legs cause he couldn't feel his legs. But I didn't take the bike from him cause I was shaking with him cause I was scared."

The boy is believed to be in critical condition.
