Big Mama hosts annual toy giveaway

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- No event is too big for South Florida's own Santa Claus.

Essie "Big Mama" Reed and her Fort Lauderdale-based charity center Team of Life hosted their annual toy giveaway at Lockhart Stadium, Friday afternoon. "We're going to make sure every child gets a toy," Reed said.

Hundreds of families lined up outside the outdoor venue in the hopes that their loved ones have a Christmas they won't soon forget.

Reed hopes to reach her goal of ensuring that 70,000 underprivileged children receive a gift this holiday season. "Channel 7 put Big Mama out there," Reed said, "And I hope Channel 7 will keep Big Mama out there."
