MIAMI (WSVN) -- Terminal trouble lead to severe travel headaches. Hundreds were evacuated at Miami International Airport.

Terminal J was evacuated after screeners detected what they thought was a grenade.

It all happened just before noon when hundreds of holiday travelers were cleared out of the airport and flights were delayed.

Passengers said they were cleared out very quickly. "This guy shoved us all out," said Perry Hoshier, "and he said, 'gotta get out, gotta get out.' And they don't tell you nothing about what 's really going on but they opened all of the doors and let us all out through the exits."

"They took us all out to the parking lot," said Alyce Diehl. "There were a lot of people. The whole end of the parking lot was packed."

Passengers waited outside and two flights were delayed. "Even under theses circumstances it really interrupts our operations," said Director of Airport, Lauren Stover, "when people bring items out here that look like firearms or grenades. So I would suggest you don't ask Santa for that this year and then get on a plane and get out of here."

"We were supposed to check in like three hours before the flight," said Pamela Alvarez, "so I think we're going to be a little bit behind."

The bomb squad was called in and they determined the suspicious device was actually a novelty lighter in the shape of a grenade which she bought as a gift.

The passenger who was on her way to Honduras was questioned by the FBI. She will not be facing any charges.

The airport is now running smoothly again.
