Family pleas for clues in father's shooting death

DORAL, Fla. (WSVN) -- Members of a South Florida family whose loved one was shot to death while doing yard work are asking for the public's help finding those responsible.
Police say they are looking for two people responsible for the murder of 54-year-old Reynaldo Velasquez. He was shot to death in his own front yard on Oct. 19, leaving three children without a father and a mother without her husband.
The Velasquez family made their plea at Miami-Dade Police Headquarters in Doral. Police said two robbers robbed him of his gold chain then shot him before fleeing the scene. The father would remain hospitalized for 10 days before he died.
His son Luis Velasquez described his father as a hard-working man who taught them everything they know in life, including knowing the difference between right from wrong. "My dad was hard-working," he said. "Even if he was sick he was out there doing labor, doing whatever he could to help the family, anything. He would always help us. He taught us everything we know."
Jasmine Velasquez said, "I hope that any person that knows information, to help out the detectives to know who did this."
The children's father was shot near Northwest 22nd Avenue and 95th Street. It was about 6:15 in the evening, and police have little information to go on. Though they have some leads provided by witnesses who shared a little information, detectives still do not have a good description of the suspects.
If you have any information on who may have killed this family man, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
