NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A North Bay Village gas station is in shambles after a driver lost control and plowed into the store.

On Friday morning, the Hess gas station was open for business and plywood covered the gaping hole where a glass window once was.

Thursday morning, broken glass, bags of snacks and spilled drinks covered the floor of the convenience store after the driver of a car crashed right into the front doors of the Hess gas station at 1508 79th St. Causeway. "I thought it was an explosion," said one gas station employee.

The driver of the vehicle was in shock when describing what happened. "The mat got stuck, and I thought I was braking, and it was accelerating," said Marylin, who did not want to show her face on camera.

Officials said only a few people suffered minor injuries. "Thank God everybody is OK," said Marylin.
