MIAMI (WSVN) -- The Miami Police Department announced the completion of three major drug-related operations which resulted in more than 100 arrests since 2010.

"We started three different operations, which started these shootings," said Chief Manuel Orosa at a press conference, Friday. The drug busts helped confiscate a slew of weapons, narcotics and drug money.

The operations, Orosa continued, helped cripple several illegal organizations associated with neighborhood shootings. The police chief said that the time was right for the public to know about them. "We want to make sure that the public is aware that we are addressing their needs, and we are going after all these shootings," he said.

Community leaders also addressed a new gun buy-back program to help get weapons off the streets. Through this program, gun owners can exchange their firearms for gift cards.
