Questions of sobriety arise in car vs house case

WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A man lost control of his SUV and slammed into an apartment building injuring a resident inside.
"It sounded like a bomb exploded," said a witness.
The SUV veered off a West Miami-Dade road and went through the backyard gate of a man's home, and ended up in his living room. It shattered the glass doors, moved the sofa, and injured the homeowner who injured his leg and head.
A neighbor said the man had just gotten up from the sofa, which may have saved his life. "He has just gotten up," said Guillermo. "That's usually where he sits. So he's lucky that he had just gotten up to get something."
Behind the silver SUV was Anival Ortiz.. A woman who lives in the complex said she ran out and found him passed out behind the wheel. When Ortiz regained consciousness, she said he made an astonishing admission about being drunk. "He looked shock," said another woman, "He was kind of a little nervous and shocked at the same time."
The homeowner has not been identified by police. He is listed in fair condition at Kendall Regional Trauma Center.
Police have not confirmed whether Ortiz was impaired. He was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.
Ortiz has been cited with careless driving. Drinking suspicions are still under investigation as toxicology results are not out yet.
