Jaws of life needed to rescue driver in crash near airport

FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD AIRPORT, Fla. (WSVN) -- A truck driver was trapped after an accident at a South Florida airport, and it wasn't be easy to get him out.

BSO deputies said at around 2:30 p.m. a Coach bus was driving down Permitter Road when it crashed into a pickup truck that worked for one of the shuttle companies.

There were only drivers in each of the vehicles. The front of the bus on the driver's side was smashed in and the pickup truck was completely destroyed.

BSO deputies said they had to use the jaws of life to pull the driver out of the truck. With the help of firefighters, the man was taken out of the truck. He was then transported to Broward Medical Health Center. He sustained serious injuries to the lower part of his body, but deputies said, he should be OK.

The woman who was driving the Coach bus from Cabana Coach was not hurt. Both drivers were on duty at the time of the accident.

Both vehicles were towed away.

Deputies are still trying to figure out how the accident happened.
