Driver loses control and slams into home; no one injured
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A car lost control and crashed into a home.
A 27-year-old driver heading southbound on Northwest 123rd Avenue lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a home with people inside.
The driver slammed into a section of a duplex apartment, between two bedrooms. Two children and a teenager were among some of the people inside the homes. "Two boys were lying down on the bed, one son is 6 years old," said their mother. "They were lying down on the bed. It was a really big noise."
The car did not completely go into the home, but one of the bedrooms has been deemed unsafe, according to police. One of the boys was watching television in his parent's bedroom when the car came crashing through. One of his sisters was looking at herself in front of a mirror when it shattered in front of her. "I realized when my daughters both screamed," said the woman. "I thought that something happened. A blast or something."
The driver told police he does not know how he lost control of the car. According to police, he was driving with a suspended license. He suffered minor lacerations to his face. "He took out that mailbox over there," said Jason Mastro, "and I heard another burst of acceleration, and I turned around, and he just nailed the house."
Witnesses said the driver stumbled out of the crushed up car confused. "I couldn't believe he got out," said Mastro.
A woman named Rica who owns the duplex was also around when the accident happened. "He said, 'Oh, I don't know what happened. I lost control.' I said, 'Don't worry about it.' His forehead had blood. They took him to the medical center."
Police said he will be cited with a moving violation as well as for driving with a suspended license.
The woman who lives in the duplex said she's glad no one was hurt.
