SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials have raided a suspected grow house in a South Florida neighborhood.

Just after midnight Thursday, Miami-Dade Police investigated possible narcotics activity at a home along Indiana Road. The suspect tried to run out the back door, but when he noticed police, he retreated back inside the home.

Police set up a perimeter around the home, containing the suspect for hours until detectives obtained a search warrant.

Miami-Dade Police Officers fired tear gas canisters through windows to force the suspect out of the home. Officers also kicked in the door, and the suspect eventually surrendered to police.

Quan Parks is shocked that his neighbor had 21 pounds of marijuana in his home. "I've only spoke to him like six or seven times, but I would've never known he had something like this in his house," said Parks. "Hey, like they say, you got to know your neighbors."

Investigators discovered a fully operational hydroponics lab and recovered over $94,000 worth of marijuana.

Demetrio Perez is now in police custody and officers have deemed the home unsafe.
