Broward teachers attend self defense course

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A group of teachers in South Florida got together to learn some safety strategies for the classroom.

About 20 teachers attended a self defense course in Hollywood.

A group called Technon Tactical hosted the free seminar.

The focus of the seminar was keeping students safe in the classroom. "I came here to learn anything new that I didn't already know," said Connie Jordan. "A lot of it is common sense, but a lot of it is just, what more can we do as a public sector to help our students and our staff."

Many said courses like this are necessary after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown Connecticut.
