MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police officers are asking for the public's help in tracking down the driver in a deadly hit and run accident.

Miami-Dade Police are handing out flyers, Wednesday morning in hopes of getting any information on the driver who struck and left 67-year-old Juan Valerio to die in the street. "We figure the vehicle is probably local, so we are passing out flyers in English and Spanish," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Christopher Cuccaro.

Last Friday, police said Valerio, a husband and father of three, was hit while crossing the street at Northwest 27th Avenue near Northwest 28th Street.

Valerio's son said his family is also passionate about finding the person behind the wheel of the car that killed their loved one. "We're asking for help. Call the police, call the police because this person, there's a high probability they are the killer so please help us," said Marlin Valerio.

Police said Valerio was struck by a 2006-2010 silver, Chevy Impala. Officials also said the vehicle will likely have damage to the right, front corner and headlight.

Marlin said he has to wait two weeks to bury his father because the body is being held for the investigation.
