Driver questioned in fatal hit-and-run accident

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami Beach Police are questioning a driver who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian near Shelborne Hotel.

The accident happened at about 6:30 a.m. Monday, at the intersection of 18th Street and Collins Avenue. Investigators said a female driver struck the man in the street and took off. Paramedics arrived, and the man was pronounced dead on scene.

Police stopped the driver a short time later on 56th Street and Collins Avenue. They found the front windshield of her car smashed, and rescue crews treated her on scene.

Officials temporarily shut down Collins Avenue in both directions, as they conducted their investigation.

So far, no charges have been filed.
