Man dies after police chase ends in crash

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- According to police, a suspected purse snatcher has died after a chase ended in a four-car crash.
The collision forced the closure of the intersection of Taft Street and North Park Street, late Monday afternoon.
Police said the accident occurred after 24-year-old Larry Madlock stole an elderly woman's purse and then tried to elude police in a blue Chevy Impala.
Hollywood Police spotted the vehicle on I-95 near Johnson Street after a B.O.L.O was reported for the vehicle. Once in pursuit, Madlock blew the light on North Park Road and crashed into a van that was driving down Taft Street, leading to the chain-reaction accident. "It was terrifying," said Lacey Wildd. "I heard a boom, it shook my house, and I ran to the front. I was in fear that somebody had hit my house."
One of the vehicles sustained major damage to the front. According to witnesses, at least two vehicles involved flipped over.
Police had to break the window of the van in order to free the driver and other passengers. Police said Madlock's vehicle crashed into several other vehicles before catching fire and flipping over on it's roof.
Madlock was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger of the Impala, a woman, was not seriously injured.
Madlock's father was left in shock. "I've never heard of him do that," said Larry Madlock Sr. "To my knowledge, no. I've never heard of him do anything like this."
Madlock has left behind a shattered family. His wife was too distraught to speak to reporters.
Four people were transported to a nearby hospital according to police, including the driver of a van who only suffered a cut to his arm.
A police officer was also injured while trying to free the driver of the van. He too suffered cuts to his arm.
