Mother shot in face recovering

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A mother of two is recovering Thursday morning after being shot in the face by a ruthless armed robber.

Evelin Matamoros underwent seven hours of surgery, Wednesday. Doctors placed a metallic plate in her jaw. They also managed to remove the bullet with no complications.

Matamoros was shot after being held up for a purse snatching last Thursday. This happened at a Chinese restaurant on Seventh Avenue and Northwest 53rd Street.

The shooter was identified as Kamiah Lanier.

Doctors expect Matamoros to make a full recovery within a year.
