MIAMI (WSVN) -- A tragic shooting has neighbors calling for an end to the gun violence that has plagued their community.

As Miami homicide detectives hunt for who murdered two Liberty City men, Betty Way is trying to figure out how to tell her grandkids, the father of their friend is gone. "He has a little boy over there, and my grandkids go over there and play with him everyday," she said.

Early Friday morning, neighbors awoke to gun blasts at Northwest 41st Street and 14th Avenue. The fatal shots killed two inside a Buick. A dog inside the car also took a bullet. "The dog died. That's awful," said Way.

After the shooting, police shut down 13th Avenue for over seven hours. Then, after the sun came up, a woman who lived in a house nearby the shooting scene spoke about her fallen neighbors. Mary Evelyn said, "They're neighbors, they stayed in the back, right there. They are friends."

Evelyn said she lives next door to the two victims who, police said, were in their twenties. Their bodies were still inside the bullet-riddled Buick as detectives towed it away. "Definitely, we can't say if there is one shooter or more," said Miami Police spokesperson Kenia Reyes.

But neighbors like Way can say for sure she is sick of seeing young people die by the gun. "It's time to stop," she said.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
