Local actress lending a helping hand

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida actress is taking the stage and lending a hand to those in need.

The Miami Theater Center in Miami Shores is combining its latest production with a shoe drive to boost business in Haiti.

The one-woman show is focused on relationships and taking a walk in the shoes of diverse Americans.

The actress is using the theme to work with the Soles-4-Souls charity, which takes donated items and uses them to start businesses in needy countries. "That's how this whole show concept sort of came about," said Christina Alexander. "I was like, well, I'm gonna change shoes. What if we could all just sort of be involved in that part of the telling of the story, that we could all bring shoes in to donate to someone who may not have?"

The production "Hate!: An American Love Story" starts Friday night and will run through Feb. 23.
