Police: woman accused of hit-and-run was DUI

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Law enforcement sources are reporting the woman accused of striking and killing a Miami Beach chef on Jan. 28 had been drinking and driving.
According to law enforcement sources, early indications show that Karlie Tomica, 20, was almost three times over the legal limit when she hit and killed executive chef Stefano Riccioletti outside the Shore Club on Jan. 28.
Tomica stands accused of striking and killing Riccioletti, executive chef at Terrazza at Shore Club on South Beach, near the Shelborne Hotel, at about 6:30 in the morning, at the intersection of 18th Street and Collins Avenue. She was later arrested and released on bond.
Tomica ran from waiting media cameras when released from jail, but she could not hide from the law, just as she could not hide from a Good Samaritan who followed her in his car to her home while on the phone with 911 dispatchers.
According to police, Tomica is expected to be re-arrested on new charges. Police have confirmed her blood alcohol content was .22.
