SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police say they are looking at all options, as they continue to investigate how a teenage boy got shot inside his South Florida home.

This Valentine's Day, the teen continues to fight for his life at Miami Children's Hospital. His was last reported listed in critical condition.

According to Miami-Dade Police, three juveniles and one adult were inside the home located at Southwest 99th Lane and 118th Court, around 5 p.m. Wednesday, when the shooting happened. "There was a 911 call that was received as shots fired inside the residence," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. "Officers responded, and that's when they discover a teenager that was suffering from a gunshot wound."

Neighbors said they believe the teens may have been playing with some type of rifle when it accidentally went off and struck the victim, who neighbors believe is perhaps 13, in the head. Police have not verified this information and continue to investigate. "You never know what happened," said neighbor Maurico Yumana, "if the gun wasn't secure or where they keep the gun. I don't believe in keeping guns in the house."

"What happened here is tragedy," said another neighbor. "I mean, basically, we had a kid playing with a gun."

Police, however, are leaving all options open, at this point, as they try to figure out what happened. If you have any information, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
