1 dead in multi-car pileup on SR-836

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that killed a passenger and led to multiple accidents, including a hit and run.
The accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. on a rainy Friday, in the westbound lanes of the Dolphin Expressway, or State Road 836. Investigators said the driver of a sport utility vehicle slammed into a dump truck near 57th Avenue.
There were four passengers in the SUV. The driver escaped with only minor injuries, but the impact killed the front passenger.
That accident sparked more collisions along the Dolphin Expressway, where a passenger was struck by an on-coming vehicle while getting out of the car. The driver in that incident sped away. "After that accident, due to the condition, we had multiple accidents that followed, one of them being a hit and run," said Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Sanchez. "It's going to be a busy day for the Florida Highway Patrol on 836."
That victim is now recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
