Mother, 2 kids escape house fire

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- A mother and her 1-year-old twins are luckily to be alive after a fierce fire broke out inside their home, leaving it a total loss, Thursday night.
Genevieve Escorcia said she was cooking around 11 p.m. when she got burned by something and then dropped a pan she was holding. Within seconds, she said, her kitchen became engulfed by flames.
Escorcia rushed to get her two children out of the burning home. "I fell with them just trying to get them out of the house. "It was so smoky. I couldn't see anything," said Escorcia.
The home, located at Northeast Second Avenue and 112 Street, was gutted and completely charred, but Escorcia said she is just happy that her family is safe. "I'm just thankful we all got out. We made it out on time and nothing happened to them."
The Red Cross is now assisting the family with a place to stay.
Nothing happened to the other home in the duplex.
