South Florida gets hit with low temps

COCONUT GROVE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Lots of events went on across South Florida this weekend, but how is this chilly weather playing a role?

"It's the first time I've had a long pair of pants on in probably about three years," said a man.

Blue skies and bright sun were all standard for South Florida but there were a few extra layers on just about everyone out and about. "This is nice once in a while," said Donna Santi.

The weather was just perfect to work out a sweat on a 26-mile run on A1A. "40 degrees was ideal," said Michael Braunstein. "I was actually worried about heat originally."

It was the coldest weekend yet in 2013 and South Floridian's just aren't used to it. "We pulled out everything we own when it gets to below 60," said Santi.

That's about as warm as it got Sunday in the sun, early morning was downright frigid. "It was freezing," said a woman. "We left the house at about ten to five and it was very cold."

Tonight, temps are poised to dip into the 40's and maybe even lower. That will make it cold enough to bring in the plants and pets and bring out the space heaters. Just be sure to place them away from anything flammable. They are capable of overheating and sparking fires.

Everybody at the Coconut Grove enjoyed the arts festival in their winter-wear Sunday as the temperature continued to drop.
