Local organization sponsors fun day for families

VIRGINIA KEY, Fla. (WSVN) -- A day full of fitness and family fun in South Florida all happened for a good cause.

Families, and running enthusiasts participated in the Carnaval 5k and 10k Walk-Run on Virginia Key Sunday morning.

Several hundred people showed up. Kiwanis of Little Havana hosted the marathon kicking off Carnaval in Miami to help donate to a charity supporting children with cancer. "The grand majority of the funds are to help the Children's Cancer Caring Center," said President of Kiwanis of Little Havana Henry Jimenez, "which is a dear organization to our organization."

The little ones got a chance to participate in a kiddy dash.

After the dash, they were able to enjoy family friendly festivities right on the beach.

The proceeds from the event will go towards the Children's Cancer Caring Center.
