Elderly couple robbed, carjacked

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Police said three men robbed and carjacked a elderly couple, Monday night.
At about 8:30 p.m., officials said, Julia Martinez, 71, and Rogelio Toirac, 64, were coming home after attending a birthday party for one of their friends. As they were parking their sport utility vehicle at their residence at the Three Towers apartment complex on Northwest 18th Avenue, three men approached their vehicle.
The victims said the alleged robbers surrounded their SUV. One of the men had a gun. They allegedly asked Martinez to hand over her purse to them. "No, I didn't get scared," said Martinez through a translator. "I was just frightened that I couldn't defend myself."
The men demanded Martinez and Toirac to give them their cell phones. At this point, the alleged perpetrators ordered the couple to step out of their SUV. "I said, 'Don't hurt her, hurt me [instead],'" said Toirac. The men then drove off in their SUV.
Martinez and Toirac's SUV is a blue 2002 Ford Escape with a Magic City Casino bumper sticker. The license plate number is 751XPV.
