Teen injured after shooting near school

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg near Carol City Sr. High School, Wednesday afternoon, police said.
According to police, the victim was walking home from school when someone shot him in the leg in Carol City Park, at 3201 NW 185 St., east of the school, at around 3 p.m. Wednesday. A witness who did not want to talk on camera said that he saw a teen with a book bag on the ground with blood pouring from his leg.
Despite being shot, police said the victim is in good condition, can talk and is expected to be OK. He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Another witness who lives in the area said she heard about five shots fired. "We just heard gunshots, like firecrackers, and we didn't know what it was," the woman said. "All of a sudden, we saw the shooter take off across the park on a bicycle, and then everything just erupted from there," she continued.
Police believe a man, not a fellow juvenile, shot him. "We don't know if [the victim] is the intended target or not," said Miami Gardens Police Capt. Ralph Suarez. "That's something that we will find out."
Carol City Sr. High School had been on lockdown because of police activity near the school, but officials have since lifted it. But the search for the alleged shooter continues. Officials said they have a physical description of the man, but are not releasing it at this point.
