Teen with cancer gets dream gig

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 15-year-old cancer survivor received a big surprise when he lived out his dream of becoming a DJ for a day.
Shiloh Beck could not stop smiling. That's because his dream of becoming a DJ has come true. "It's awesome to be hanging out with DJ Laz," said Beck. "He's teaching me a lot of stuff about the music industry."
The 15-year-old looks just like an average kid, but Shilo has lymphoma. He was first diagnosed when he was 13 years old, then went into remission. Just last month, on his birthday, he got the news that the cancer had returned. "He just hangs in there," said his mother, Lisa Scott, "and he's a fighter, he's a strong kid. He always has been, and the thing I love about Shiloh most is he makes sure everyone around him is happy."
Instead of looking at himself and his circumstance, Shiloh makes the other kids at the hospital smile. He's a DJ in his hospital room. With his laptop and mixer in his room, he does it all from his hospital tray table. "Music just makes you wanna just get up and dance," said Beck.
"It came to my attention that my little buddy was suffering from cancer," said Dino DeCesare, "and I found out he loves music, so I thought, 'Hey! Why not get a bunch of my friends that are DJs to come cheer him up, bring some DJ equipment and see if we can make his day?'"
His friend made his day and then some. The teen arrived to the radio station in a lime green stretch limo and once inside, DJ Laz from 106.7 handed over the mic. "I wanna give a shout out to Justino over at Child Life," said Beck. "I wanna give a shout out to all the nurses in 3 North, infusion unit, you guys rock!"
"His energy, his heart, his passion," said Lazaro "DJ Laz" Mendez, "you can see he's going to be a huge deal. He's just gotta a couple of obstacles to overcome."
Cancer isn't the only thing Shiloh has to overcome. "The thing about Shilo," said his mom, "is that he's also got a hearing disability, so music just took him away."
DJ Shi B already has his first gig. He'll be playing at Passion Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood in April for his very own fundraiser.
