MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A swimming excursion turned tragic for a group of divers when one person did not make it out alive.

"Nobody intentionally left her in the water or anything," said Ariane Dimitris, "and most people wouldn't get in the water alone."

Divers were shocked after a woman, who was on an excursion with them in Key Biscayne came up missing. "They didn't leave until they knew who everyone was and that everyone was on the boat," said Dimitris. "The reason we knew she was missing was because they did a roll call, and we didn't know where she was."

The divers each used a buddy system. Other people on the boat said the woman did not speak English and left her partner. Some divers waited on the victim to make sure she did not dive alone. "They started the time going at 1:45, and they said be back at 2:45," said Dimitris. "We only descended at 2:06, so that's how long we waited for her. Then we figured she wasn't coming, and we saw her on the ladder, so we thought she wasn't diving."

Nobody saw her get into the water. "Nobody here did anything wrong," said Dimitris. "She shouldn't have gone alone. If she missed her buddy, she should have stayed on the boat or asked the dive master to go with her or something, but nobody knew that she went in by herself."

After hours of searching, divers from R.J. Divers found the woman's body without any of the proper equipment on. "Maybe their weight belt," said Dimitris. "I have never even heard of someone even taking off their fins. It's very strange and normally if someone panics, you're supposed to drop your weights and you keep everything on you because that was her survival."

Witnesses said the woman was found with only her wet suit on and possibly her weights.

After the woman's body was found, she was taken to the Miami Beach Marina.

Divers said they felt safe with the company and would use them again.
