SS checks to be direct-deposited on March 1

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- Those who receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits must do so via direct deposit starting March 1.
If you are receiving payment by check, you have until Friday to switch to a form of electronic payment. However, tens of thousands of seniors in South Florida have yet to sign up for direct deposit.
Those who do not sign up for electronic payments will continue to receive a check. However, the Treasury Department is encouraging seniors to make the switch.
The Treasury assures electronic payments are a safer, more convenient alternative to paper checks.
For assistance go to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Go Direct Website at http://godirect.org/ or call the helpline at 1-800-333-1795.
