Miami-Dade mayor touts improving economy, lower unemployment

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez touted an improving economy in his annual State of the County address Thursday.
Gimenez pointed to the drop in the county's unemployment rate. He also promoted a renewed commitment to improving infrastructure. "I'm optimistic about our communities prospects, our employment figures are moving in the right direction, the number of employed residents grew by 44,000 during fiscal year 2012," he said.
Gimenez added that all citizens need to do to look at the county's progress is to look at the Miami skyline. "It's not just statistics fueling my positive outlook, it's the construction cranes that are cropping up across our beautiful skyline for the first time in years," he said.
Among the mayor's goals looking ahead is improving the county's parks and transportation.
