WEST PARK, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Broward Sheriff's Office station had to be evacuated after a woman walked in looking to turn over a hand grenade to the authorities.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies have blocked entrances to the parking lot of their District 19 office, located at 3201 W Hallandale Beach Blvd., late Friday afternoon, as the bomb squad continues to investigate.

According to the BSO, a woman brought in the object to their substation to surrender it. She said she found the grenade in her house and noted that it once belonged to her deceased husband.

BSO said the grenade has been altered, but it remains unknown if the grenade is active or inert, as the bomb squad continues to investigate. A robot has been called over to the scene to remove the alleged grenade from their office and take it to an undisclosed location to detonate it.
