WEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The roof of a South Florida apartment building caught on fire and the residents were left out in the cold.

The blaze broke out at the complex early Saturday morning on Fontainebleau Boulevard in west Miami-Dade.

Roofing material from a refurbishing project for the building caught on fire and forced families out into the frigid weather. "I heard the alarm, "said Christopher Rodriguez, "and my dad came out to see what it was and then he rushed into the house and told us it was the fire alarm."

Residents in the building were able to return to the warmth of their homes once crews put out the flames and gave the OK.

No one was hurt inside the building.
