Friends and family thank Pitbull for reaching out
SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- Fans send a message to Mr. 305 days after the rapper reached out to a fan in need.
It's not the Harlem shake, it's even better, it's the Lani shake.
Lani Lopez's friends and family got together in South Miami to celebrate her recovery.
The 25-year-old ended up in intensive care two weeks ago after being diagnosed with Miocarditis, an inflammation of the heart that can be deadly in young adults.
Her friends decided to do something special and with the help of social media, connected her with her music idol, Pitbull.
Mr. 305 himself, sent her a message to cheer her up. "You inspire me and make me realize what life is about," said Pitbull in the video message.
"We're very grateful for what he did," said Lani's fiancé Rick Landera, "and we want to send a thank you ourselves."
What better way to say thank you than with a video dancing to the beat of the music that Lani loves so much? "I know that it's not easy," said Landera. "He's busy. He's on tour right now and he's got a lot going on. He took time out of his day to call her, to send a video and it's something that he really felt, especially since it's his hometown Miami."
With the help of doctors and a little help from her favorite rapper, Lani was able to leave the hospital. But she's not strong enough to hit the dance floor just yet. "She also wants to say thank you to Pitbull because she knows how difficult it must have been," said Landera. "It really did make a difference in her fighting. It was on her to fight that gave her a little motivation to do so.
"It's a real testament to friendship and we're just happy that we have so many good friends and family that support us through hard times," said a friend.
Lani faces a long recovery at home but with a little rest and relaxation doctors said she should make a full recovery.
