1 dead after another violent shooting
NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Shots were fired on a South Florida street and left one person dead.
A crowd of people gathered Sunday afternoon. A woman was devastated after another life was taken because of a shooting on Northwest 63rd Street and 13th Avenue. "It's so depressing that this is happening now to so many young people," said Benny Jackson. "They haven't even had the chance to really live."
Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who's body was lying on the ground for hours during the investigation. The yellow tarp covering his body and the yellow crime scene tape are all too familiar for people in the neighborhood. "One of the guys told me that they shot him up," said Mark James. "They drove by and then got out and shot him."
Just last week a teen was shot and killed just six blocks away from today's shooting. Neighbors said gunshots are heard in the area almost every day. "I heard high powered rifles," said James, "and I was like, 'What's going on?' and I found out it was a young boy on 13th Court and 62nd."
Neighbors who want peace in their neighborhood are even considering buying guns themselves. "I had a gun but I sold it back to the company," said James. "Now, I know I need it for my protection cause I can't walk the street without someone looking at you."
Men hoping to give advice and comfort in the midst of the violence stood by the scene for support. "We just enjoy talking to each other about the days," said Jackson, "and how we came up and how things were."
Just about a half hour after the shooting occurred, another shooting occurred at Northwest 59th Street and 25th Avenue where a man was shot in the leg.
Police have not confirmed if the two shootings are related.
Police believe the suspected gunmen involved in the first shooting were in a white mini van.
