HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Over 300 people remain without electricity after an elderly woman crashed into a utility pole and brought down power lines on her car, Monday morning.

Police and paramedics arrived on the scene at East Fourth Avenue and 39th Street in Hialeah. Florida Power and Light technicians shut down the power so rescue crews could remove the patient.

Around 11 a.m. the driver apparently lost control of her vehicle while heading northbound on West Fourth Avenue. The car then went off the roadway and slammed into the electrical pole .

The victim was trapped inside her car until Hialeah Fire Rescue rescue crews cut off the roof of her vehicle and extricated her.

The driver was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

About 1,500 people were initially affected when FPL officials turned off the electricity. Officials said power should be restored in the next few hours.
