MIAMI (WSVN) -- The victim of an attempted robbery fought back with deadly results in Miami.

It happened Tuesday outside Brewtons Market along Northwest 70th Street and 15th Avenue. Police said 19-year-old Milton Devon Johnson demanded the victim's belongings before shooting him in the hand. "Before he knew it, he got shot in the arm, because someone was trying to rob him," said Will Tillman, the victim's father.

According to police a report, Will Tillman Jr. was shot in the wrist before pulling a gun and opening fire on the robber, striking him several times.

Tillman Jr. ran to nearby Brewtons Market for help.

Rescue crews transported Johnson to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died.

Residents are upset with the violence in the area. "This is not good here," said local business owner Joe. "For me, I cannot do anything if the police can't do anything. The government can't do anything. We just live with it."

Tillman said his son has a permit to carry a weapon and is concerned about all the shootings in the area. "It's scary. I wish they would stop all the killing and shooting around here, because it's terrible," he said.

One of the guns used in the shooting was found in the street.

The victim is now out of surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police are still investigating.
