LITTLE HAVANA, Fla. (WSVN) -- A day of partying took a dangerous turn as gunshots rang out during Calle Ocho.

The music, the food and the fun of Calle Ocho is a lot to take in, especially for tourists from South Carolina. "A little bit of a culture shock, but it's awesome," said Liza Hall. "We're really enjoying it, so much music, it's really fun."

But the party was put on pause briefly in Miami's Little Havana, late Sunday afternoon.

Amidst the crowd of people packing Eighth Street representing dozens of countries, someone carrying a gun fired a shot after an argument in the otherwise festive crowd. "We don't have much information on the caliber of gun used," said Miami Police Sergeant Freddie Cruz, "or what he was shot with, but he collapsed and fire rescue immediately treated him."

Making this case even stranger, the victim didn't even realize what happened until he had walked away from the altercation. "We have a gentleman who apparently discovered after walking several blocks that he had been shot," said Cruz.

That victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the buttocks.

Police ended up making 15 arrests during the festival. Most of them were for cases of disorderly conduct.
