PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A child was hospitalized after he was left inside an unattended vehicle and put in gear, resulting in a crash Monday.

A 6-year-old boy was left inside a running van while his mother went inside a daycare to pick up another, child along the 1300 Block of Northwest Sixth Street in Fort Lauderdale.

According to police, the 6-year-old put the van in reverse. The vehicle then rolled about 30 feet and hit a cement pillar.

The boy was taken to Plantation General Hospital with a cut to his leg.

A daycare worker who did not want to be identified, said the child was scared. "He calmed down after one of the employees came out," said the employee.

The child's injuries were minor. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said charges against the boy's mother remain pending.
